Maize Hutton organized her receipts using a recycled dish rack!

I think I may dig my old one out of the "yard sale" section in my garage.

BBQ!!!!!!

/ Wednesday, April 25, 2012 /
My favorite part about warm weather are the BBQ's.
Although I'm a huge meat and potato fan when it comes to BBQs, I found a few non-traditional recipes that I will have to try out this summer.

And for DESSERT!!!

* For those of you who have never tried rabbit meat before, here are a few facts.
  •  Cholesterol level in rabbit meat is much lower than chicken, turkey, beef, pork
  •  Rabbit is lower in % of fat than chicken, turkey, beef, and pork.
  •  Rabbit is highest in protein%.
  •  The office of home economics, state relations of the U S Department of Agriculture has made extensive test and have stated that domestic rabbit meat is the most nutritious meat known to man
  • Rabbit meat has been used and is suitable for special diets, such as those for heart disease patients, diets for the aged, low sodium diets, weight reduction diets, ect. (although I am not a professional so please talk to your doctor first)
  • Rabbit has 795 calories per pound. Chicken 810, Veal 840, Turkey 1190, Lamb 1420, Beef 1440, Pork 2050.
  •  A doe rabbit that weighs 10 pounds can produce 320 pounds of meat in a year. This is more than a cow and it takes 2 acres of land to raise a cow.
  • It was decreed by law in the Roman Empire that all young maidens be fed rabbit meat because it would make them more beautiful and more willing.
I didn't know that stores even carried rabbit meat but once I started looking I found that a lot of them do. You may need to ask one of the store clerks since they sometimes keep it in odd locations.

Fun Outdoor Projects for Kids

/ Tuesday, April 24, 2012 /
Last summer I hung a watering can up in a tree, then stuck the end of the garden hose in inside. I placed a kiddy pool underneath it and voila... an outdoor shower. My girls spent hours playing in the water and it was a great way to clean them off after any dirty/messy activities.

Here are a few other ideas I discovered to pull the kids away from the television and video games and get them outside to enjoy the warm weather.

Make Bubble Snakes. I used to do this my kids when I ran an in-home daycare. It was always a HUGE hit with kids of all ages.

Let the kids paint using some Sidewalk Chalk Paint. With only a few simple ingredients that you probably already have in you kitchen, this could provide a lot of fun for little ones as well as older kids.

Fill a few plastic bottles with water, grab a ball and you have an outdoor bowling alley.

Make an outdoor waterbed using a couple plastic sheets and a lot of duct tape. This is the perfect way to let the kids play with water when you don't want them getting wet.

This Backyard Play Area has everything from a sandbox to a pond. There is even a tunnel made from PVC pipe.

Have a scavenger hunt. Take photos of the hunt and put together a fun journal when you are done.

Play a fun game of water doge ball with these super simple sponge bombs.

Create a fun piece of art or nature journal using leaves and other items found outdoors.

Get creative with recycled materials and create your own water or sand wall.

What are your plans for getting the kiddos outside this summer?
