Kids and Nature

/ Wednesday, May 30, 2012 /
One of the reasons my husband and I choose to live so far out of town was because we both love nature. I hope that my girls will grow up with the same love for nature as my husband and I have.
I use every opportunity I can to get the kids outdoors.
While they are usually happy with just running around chasing each other I try to incorporate learning experiences and crafts into their outdoor play as much as possible.

Here are a few great sites I wanted to share with you that are full of fun nature inspired activities.

I hope this post has given you a good excuse to get the kids (and yourself) outside for some fun.

Daddy Day

/ Tuesday, May 29, 2012 /
Daddy Day (aka Fathers Day) has always been a big deal in our home. However I have never been one to get hubby a store bought gift. Since Daddy's Day is the celebration of him being a Daddy then handmade gifts from the kids always seemed more appropriate. I'll leave the store bought gifts for the other holidays. That being said Daddy's Day is only a few short week away and I am at a loss at what the girls can make him.

Last year the girls and I made this special stepping stone for hubby.

The year before, I took photos of the girls holding up the word DADDY, placed them on canvas with their hand prints and foot prints.

Here are a few ideas I found for Daddy's Day this year.

Love this Candy Note - Link is broken but you get the idea.

These BBQ Cup Cakes would be so fun to make with the kids.

This printable Cutout Frame is such a cute idea.

I love this idea of putting together a Father's Day Collage.

I've seen a lot of printable interview for kids to fill out about their dad. This one is my favorite because it includes an area for the kids to draw a picture.

This Daddy Cutout is such a great way to use your kids artwork.

Any other Daddy's Day Craft ideas?
I would love to hear what you are doing.

Keep your kids busy this summer

/ Friday, May 25, 2012 /
Kids will be starting summer soon (some already have). Although my kids are not in school yet, I know how hard it can be to keep the kiddos entertained during the summer months. Sometimes it seems so much easier to just set them in front of a TV and play Dora reruns all day, (and many days I am tempted to) but I know that there are so many more benefits to creative, outdoor play.
  1. They burn energy which leads to better sleep (which leads to mommy sleeping better as well)
  2. They learn so much more
  3. I don't have to hear "I'm bored" 50 times a day
  4. And many, many more.
Here are a couple ideas I am planning on using this summer.

(link is not in English but photos are pretty self explanatory)

(I think I made a billion of these when I was a kid)

Make a shell wind chime

Give them a shady place to play
(definitely a must in this AZ heat)
